Rest & Relaxation Sleep Series

Presented by: Lauren Ziegler, Sleep Coach, and The Center for Mindfulness

You’re invited to join this six-week series on sleep and relaxation, facilitated by Lauren Ziegler, a sleep coach and yoga therapist, for a holistic sleep experience that integrates yoga for sleep, mindfulness for sleep, meditation and rest enhancing techniques. With sleep education, guided relaxation and enjoyable community connection, we look forward to having you there!

Your Personalized Sleep Plan: October 8th at 12pm
Learn more about the importance of evening routine and creating a sleep-friendly environment using sensory cues (i.e. lighting, scents, sounds). You will be offered a sleep diary to record your sleep patterns, sleep quality, and track changes throughout this series. (Sign up here if you want the sleep diary emailed to you).

Sleep From a Holistic Perspective: October 15th at 12pm
Learn more about the mind-body connection in sleep, how stress affects your sleep, and the sleep cycles. We will explore practices that promote relaxation and ease tension in areas that can affect sleep, like the neck and shoulders.

Breathing Techniques to Prepare for Sleep: October 22nd at 12pm
Learn more about the physiology of how breathing control impacts the nervous system and its role in sleep regulation. We will also practice breathing techniques designed to prepare your system for better sleep that you can practice before bed or as soon as you get into bed.

Yoga Nidra: The Yogic Sleep: October 29th at 12pm
Explore Yoga Nidra, also known as “yogic sleep,” a deeply relaxing practice that can improve your experience falling asleep and deep sleep quality. We’ll practice a full Yoga Nidra session with a focus on relaxing your body and mind.

Yoga to Calm the Mind and Sleep Better: November 5th at 12pm
Learn more about the role of yoga in reducing stress and calming the mind for better sleep and the benefits of restorative yoga in particular for relaxation. Enjoy a yoga session with a focus on poses that will help you sleep better.

Build your Sacred Sleep Routine: November 12th at 12pm
Recap the key teachings from yoga, meditation, and sleep science (the techniques from this series) so you can review what works for you and build your own pre-bed rituals.

Mindfulness is a way to train ourselves to be in the present moment with awareness, acceptance, and self-compassion. Practicing mindfulness can help us cope with difficult experiences, cultivate meaning, and boost positive emotions.  In this series we will delve into mind-body techniques which can strengthen our skills for dealing with life.  We will also have time to practice these new skills. We meet once a week and attending all 4 sessions is encouraged. Sessions will take place at the CSU Health Network or on Zoom. Improving Sleep and Your Wellbeing for CSU Students, 5 session Series

Do you have trouble sleeping? Or, do you think you sleep well, but wake up not feeling refreshed? If so, this sleep 5 session workshop can help you.  You will learn proven behaviors and habits that lead to better sleep and related daily functioning.  We will cover the benefits of sleep to your physical, emotional, and mental well-being, and how sleep medications and other substances can affect your sleep and sleep patterns.  This workshop goes beyond sleep hygiene, including how to use a sleep diary to better understand your sleep and what your sleep patterns might be telling you. We will discuss the physiology of sleep and you will have an opportunity to complete a sleep assessment.  There will be Q&A time for your specific questions.  This free five-session workshop is for undergrad and graduate students at CSU. The Still Point Reflection Space   is a nourishing, inclusive environment for CSU faculty, staff and students from all backgrounds and cultures. This is a space that can be used to prioritize your well-being and self-care.a place to relax, pray, meditate and reflect. You can reserve sometime in the relaxation pod and/or check out for use in the space Heart Math, biofeedback/stress reduction devices. Located on the 1st floor of the CSU Health and Medical Center, the Still Point Reflection Space is open for use during CSU Health Network normal operating hours

Wake Up CSU-  Sitting Owl Sangha 

  • When: 5:00-6:00pm every Monday

  • Where: Danforth Chapel (The Oval, CSU)
  • What: Interested in starting to meditate? Long-time practitioner? It’s hard to go it alone. Sitting Owl Sangha is a mindfulness meditation group which seeks to create an inclusive, conscious, and supportive community to foster belonging and compassion through mindfulness. We are a CSU organization and part of the Wake-Up network, inspired by the teachings of Plum Village and specifically for the needs of adults aged 18 to 35. We have been meeting at CSU since 2019. Come practice meditation and build community

Zen Club Weekly Meetings

  • When: 5:30-6:30pm every Wednesdays
  • Where: Danforth Chapel (The Oval, CSU)
  • What: Zen Club weekly meetings provide an opportunity for students and community members to cultivate mindfulness, awareness and self-discipline through sitting and walking meditation. Also it occasionally brings to the campus speakers and educators of the zen meditation perspective.
